Millennial First Lady
Who are Millennial First Ladies?
Millennial’s are the largest generation since the baby boomers and we are making our mark on the world and the church. Every woman that stands beside her husband in ministry, has been called by God to a position of authority that requires wisdom, courage, sacrifice, commitment, responsibility, and understanding. While the idea of a traditional first lady remains the same, many millennial women that are stepping into this position have more contemporary views. We are not too keen about being put on a pedestal because we are all servants in the body of Christ.
Being the First Lady can be very challenging. A great deal of the challenges come from the pressure to live up to a certain standard of what people think a first lady should be.
But our priority must be to seek God first and have a strong prayer life. Prayer will get you through those tough situations. Especially in the beginning when you are learning to find the balance between family, marriage, and ministry. It is also through a strong prayer life that you will develop a stronger relationship with God. Through that relationship with God, your purpose and calling will be revealed.
Don’t be afraid to pursue your calling.
Yes, it may be scary initially. But you got this sis!
Being the First Lady means that you reverence your husband’s calling, you are open to learning, you are willing to sacrifice and you should learn how to be a woman of many hats. You must be a generous woman and be prepared to share your husband with God and the ministry. You must be willing to mentor women as well as receive training for yourself to be mentored. We have to learn to make time for ourselves, our dreams, and our goals.
A millennial first lady is someone who gives 100% of her efforts and does not elevate or separate herself from her fellow women. She is a humble servant. She does not lift herself up in pride and haughtiness. She is most of all kind. She respects and honors the traditions of those who have gone before her. She doesn’t fit into a particular “box”, she creates her own classification and is comfortable in her skin. She doesn’t mind rolling up her sleeves and breaking a sweat while working in ministry. She is present in the lives of those who she cares for, she understands her influence and she supports her husband naturally and spiritually. A millennial first lady can look like and be any woman!
We may not look like our mothers and grandmothers, but we love the Lord and we love ministry. I am a wife, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, and a child of God. I am a millennial first lady!
“In the same way, their wives must be respected and must not slander others. They must exercise self-control and be faithful in everything they do.” – 1 Timothy 3:11 NLT
