Skin Cycling - The TikTok Trend

So, I’ve done a lot of research, taken online quizzes, and watched so many TikTok videos. I came across a video of a newer trend called “skin cycling” that has been all the rage. Now it was a little confusing to figure out, until I ran across another video of someone breaking down the order. This routine promotes healthy skincare, shows you how to properly use active ingredients and allow your skin time to recuperate.

Is it the answer to our skincare problems.

I have struggled with skincare issue for as long as I can remember. Since I received my PCOS diagnosis, I’ve developed cystic acne. In the most recent years social media has become the first place that people search for advice. Some advice is good, while some you should ignore. Social media has become a great resource, you can find the best cleansers and advice from a dermatologist on how to correctly incorporate products into your skincare routine.

Skin Cycling - What is it?

This is a nighttime routine created by Dr. Whitney Bowe a NYC based dermatologist. It is a method that simplifies how often you should be using active ingredients and layering skincare products such as retinols, vitamin C, salicylic acid, and glycolic acid. It is a four-night cycle that includes night one exfoliation, night two retinoid and two sequential nights of recovery to give your skin a break before repeating the process.

How Does It Work?

Night 1: Exfoliation

  • Cleanser

  • Chemical Exfoliant

  • Fragrance Free Moisturizer

DO NOT SLUG ON EXFOLIATION NIGHT.

AVOID OILS ON EXFOLIATION NIGHT.

Night 2: Retinol

Normal Skin to Oily/Combination Skin

  • Cleanser

  • Retinol

  • Fragrance Free Moisturizer

Sensitive Skin

  • Cleanser

  • Fragrance Free Moisturizer (as a barrier)

  • Retinol

Night 3 & 4: Recovery

  • Cleanser

  • Hyaluronic Acid or Squalane

  • Moisturizer

Does skin cycling work for everyone?

I am going to start this routine to see if it works for me. I have oily acne prone skin and I am ready to have healthy glowing skin. But I would highly recommend that you see a dermatologist if you have other skincare concerns.
